The Mass Save® thermostat rebate program helps Massachusetts residents upgrade to energy-efficient smart and programmable thermostats. These devices make it easier to control home temperatures and lower utility bills.

 

1) What is the Mass Save® program?

Mass Save® is a statewide initiative designed to help Massachusetts residents lower their energy consumption and reduce their carbon footprint. This program offers rebates and incentives for a variety of home energy upgrades, including insulation, heating systems, appliances, and thermostats.

Your Mass Save® journey begins with a no-cost home energy assessment, during which a certified professional will evaluate your home’s energy efficiency and suggest improvements. Based on the results, you can apply for rebates and incentives to make upgrading more affordable.

 

2) Why upgrade to a smart thermostat?

Smart thermostats are popular because they let homeowners save on heating and cooling costs by optimizing their home’s temperature control. A smart thermostat reduces unnecessary energy consumption by closely controlling your heating and cooling.

Bear in mind that two types of upgraded thermostats are available through Mass Save®:

  • Programmable thermostats allow you to set precise heating and cooling schedules based on your routine. For example, you can program your thermostat to lower the temperature when you’re asleep or away and raise it before you wake up or come home.
  • Smart thermostats take energy savings a step further by learning your habits and adjusting temperatures automatically. They use sensors, weather data, and even smartphone location tracking to optimize your energy use in real-time.

 

Many modern thermostats can be controlled remotely through an app, letting you adjust your home’s temperature from anywhere. Some also integrate with voice assistants and other smart home devices.

3) Mass Save® thermostat rebate: How it works

The Mass Save® thermostat rebate offer helps homeowners offset the cost of upgrading their heating control system. Here’s how you can take advantage of this rebate:

  • Step 1: Schedule a home energy assessment
    • Sign up for a no-cost home energy audit with Wattson Home Solutions. An approved specialist will evaluate your home’s energy use and suggest ways to improve its efficiency, such as adding insulation or upgrading to a smart thermostat.
  • Step 2: Book your thermostat installation
    • Your energy specialist will recommend programmable and smart thermostat models that qualify for the rebate. Once you’ve chosen the best model for your needs, a professional will come to your home to install it.
  • Step 3: Submit your rebate application
    • Eligible Massachusetts residents can claim a rebate for up to three upgraded thermostats per household. Rebates for programmable thermostats are capped at $25, while ENERGY STAR® Certified Smart Thermostats fetch rebates of up to $100 each.
